Brigade CO
Visited D Company's CP in the field — June 8, 1968
As CO, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Col. Stannard visited D Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry's command post in the field at 1015 hours, and was briefed by the battalion's own CO, LTC John V. Gibney, and D Company's CPT Grannamann. A large enemy cache (36 bunkers, mortar rounds, rockets, TNT, an AK-47 magazine, and NVA gear) was found later the same day, 1710 hours, at grid YD326393. Source: the D/2-8 Cav company daily journal (Skipper Journal, 3 Jun-3 Jul 1968), which originally transcribed his name as "Standard" rather than "Stannard."
