Non-Hostile — Malaria
Died of malaria — March 16, 1971
PFC James Getter died on March 16, 1971, of malaria — recorded as a non-hostile death (died of illness or disease). He was 19, and had been in Vietnam since November 20, 1970 — not quite four months. His death is non-hostile in the casualty record, but it is a death of the war: malaria was endemic to the areas D Company operated in, and he did not contract it apart from his service. His name is inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 4W, Line 52.
