Bumped from crash flight — FSB Fontaine
Garvin had traveled to FSB Fontaine with Richard Colburn, the Battalion Armor, to complete weapons repairs. At the last moment, the loadmaster bumped Garvin from the return flight. He watched the UH-1H (69-15692) take off and fall out of the sky. CPT Martin Fanning, WO1 Gabriel Jeffries, and SGT Richard Colburn were killed. Garvin's survival was entirely circumstantial.
