The following is an email account from Vince Carbone regarding the firefight on 2/3/71:
To this day I still have a video in my mind of the event that it seems it was just yesterday that constantly keeps playing over and over.
While the m60 was jammed I kept laying down fire (a few magazines) at the VC behind the big Banyan tree by the trail where they were taking cover. As I was laying there next you on your right on the trail reloading, I thought that we both were goners when one of the VC was looking straight at us with his AK-47 pointing towards us ready to open fire, but on a brief second he retreated behind the tree as I believe some troop members behind us and to our right must have engaged him or the good Lord stepped in.
