Died — July 18, 1971
SP4 Charles Roberts died on July 18, 1971 — a non-hostile death the Army recorded as an accidental, self-inflicted injury. He was 21, and had been in Vietnam since the previous December. His casualty record places his death in Darlac Province. A single secondary account (coffeltdatabase.org, via a Wall of Faces remembrance) describes the circumstances in detail — an accidental overdose of Darvon and alcohol while on guard at a radio relay site — but that account also lists his unit as HHC rather than D Company and may conflate him with another soldier of the same name; it is treated here as unverified. His name is inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 3W, Line 110.
