Marvin's first known letter from Vietnam, written about eleven days after he arrived in country (4 December 1970). It traces his route in — flown into Cam Ranh Bay, then to Bien Hoa, then forward to FSB Mace — and asks his mother to send simple things that are hard to get in the field, "even the simplest things like a mirror."

Dear Mom,
I'm at Fire Base Mace right now. I had a good trip over, but I'm a little tired of going from place to place. I'm glad I finally got an address that I can get mail from. I flew into Cam Ranh Bay and then into Bien Hoa. From there I flew to where I'm at now.
The rainy season is over now so the weather is hot an sticky. They tell me that it gets alot hotter though.
It's getting kinda dark so I'll write more later.
Bye for now Love Marvin
P.S. As soon as I know for sure that I can get mail here I want you to send me some stuff that I can't get over here. Even the simplest things like a mirror is hard to get.
