CPL Michael Charles Jackson was killed in action on March 17, 1970, in Tay Ninh Province. The casualty record codes the cause as hostile, died outright — multiple fragmentation wounds, ground casualty. Firebase Illingworth (XT039792) opened on this same day, and SP4 Stephen Alsup — a fellow D Company mortarman — was wounded the following day in a contact at XT045833, approximately 7km northeast of the firebase. No contact entry for March 17 appears in the 1st Cav Div ORLL (AD0512505); Jackson's specific location remains unestablished. He had been in-country three months and twenty-one days. He was 20 years old. He is inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 12W, Line 13.
