PFC Kenneth Frierson began his tour with D Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry (Airmobile), 1st Cavalry Division. He was 20 years old, from Alcolu, Clarendon County, South Carolina. The battalion was deep in its War Zone C / Tay Ninh Province border interdiction mission under LTC Michael Conrad; FB Westphal (YT380835) was the battalion's fire support base in the weeks immediately before his arrival.

Killed in action — small arms fire, Hau Nghia Province
PFC Kenneth Frierson was killed by small arms fire on January 25, 1970, in Hau Nghia Province. He had been in-country 45 days. The casualty record codes the cause as hostile, died outright — gun or small arms fire, ground casualty. In a remembrance posted to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund's Wall of Faces, Lt. Glen Beasley — who commanded the element Frierson was with that day — wrote: "Your actions saved us at your own sacrifice." He was 20 years old. He is inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 14W, Line 64.
