FSB Gonder was a cross-border fire support base inside Cambodia, held by 2/8 Cav (with 2/5 Cav) from 20 May to 27 June 1970 during the Cambodian Incursion. Contact — Hau Nghia Province, January 25, 1970
On January 25, 1970, Lt. Beasley's element of D Company made contact with enemy forces in Hau Nghia Province. In that engagement, PFC Kenneth Frierson — a rifleman from Alcolu, South Carolina who had been in-country 45 days — was killed by small arms fire. More than fifty years later, Lt. Beasley wrote of him:
"Ken, 53 years ago this month. Your actions saved us at your own sacrifice. God bless you."
Frierson is inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 14W, Line 64.
