SP4 Oscar Aguilar to his cousins, 23 April 1972. Written 17 days before the May 10 Chinook crash. His leave for May 17 had been approved — 14 days stateside. He wrote that he chose to go home rather than take R&R in Bangkok because he was afraid he might not get another chance. He was killed one week before his leave was to begin.
Say! Hi again,
Hey, what's up — haven't heard from you all lately so here I am. Well really, just here to tell you something. Here goes.
My leave for the 17th of May was approved, so yea, I'll come to see you all. It's going to be a 14 day leave. I'd go to Bangkok or some weird exotic place like that, but I thought — now, when if I don't go stateside now, I may lose that chance of making it again. So, I'll see you in May ok cousins? Welp, 20 to 6 p.m. now. Catch you later.
Love, Your Cousin, Oscar Aguilar
