Operation Kentucky Cougar — initiated 24 June 1969

Context page — division level (DTIC AD0506273). A 1st Brigade operation that 2/8 Cav took part in, but it begins after the May cluster and was still in progress when this report closed (31 July 1969).

Kentucky Cougar was initiated 24 June 1969 as the division shifted its weight north. The 1st Brigade continued operations through July with the 2/5, 2/7, and 2/8 Cav to interdict enemy movement through the brigade AO and to destroy major enemy forces, supplies, and fortifications, with the division concentrating its efforts in Tay Ninh, Binh Long, Binh Duong, and Phuoc Long as the period ended.

Relevance to the cluster: it post-dates the May 1969 deaths, so it does not frame them. It is included to complete this quarter's operations and because it is the likely operational context for later 1969 D Co losses (e.g., the August 1969 entries on the KIA list). Its conclusion falls in the next quarterly ORLL.
