At 1210 hours on June 4, 1968, an enlisted man of D Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry was wounded by shrapnel from friendly (outgoing US) artillery fire at grid YD324398. Medevac ran at 1250 hours.
This incident preceded, by about an hour and a half and roughly 500 meters, the same company's bunker-complex contact with NVA forces at grid YD324393 at 1345 hours that afternoon (see contact-yd324393-1968-06-04). The two are recorded separately because the journal gives them as distinct entries with different causes.
