August 16, 1969 — sweep west of FSB Becky, Tay Ninh Province

In the central portion of War Zone C, Company A and Company D, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry conducted a ground sweep west of Fire Support Base Becky. Ground contact was established at 0845 hours and held until 1000 hours, when the enemy withdrew. A search of the contact site produced 25 enemy killed. A prisoner captured by A Company was identified as a member of the 95th Regiment, 1st NVA Division — confirming that unit's presence in central War Zone C.

Friendly casualties were 1 US killed, 3 US wounded.

CPL Michael Dennis Muse, 21, of Garland, Texas, was killed this day — his official casualty record gives 16 August 1969, matching the ORLL exactly. He is the only D Company, 2/8 Cav KIA on record for that date, five days after PVT Daniel Zuniga died defending the same fire support base.

See CPL Michael Muse.
